This antique, finely hand-knotted Sarough rug is exemplary of the high quality that is produced in this small village in the Arak region. It has been inspected and cared for by our experts to guarantee its beautiful condition. This antique rug demonstrates the precious durability of Sarough rugs. It is a real investment, as old Sarough rugs are a rarity and are no longer woven in this way.


Persia, Arak

Sarouk is located north of Arak and is the place of origin for some of the most sought-after Persian rugs today. Antique Sarouk rugs have a very distinctive salmon red colour that is almost unique among hand-knotted oriental rugs. In addition, the rugs are made from high-quality sheep’s wool and vegetable dyes, crafted to an excellent standard. A genuine Sarouk lasts a lifetime.

High-quality wool

Kork wool refers to sheep’s wool taken from the neck area of the sheep. Wool is a natural material with many practical benefits for everyday use. It is extremely hard-wearing and easily withstands daily wear and tear. With proper care, it can also last for many decades without showing signs of ageing. Kork wool is particularly soft and lustrous, as it has a higher natural oil content. For this reason, it is generally used only in high-quality rugs.

Hand-knotted

Traditionally hand-knotted rugs still represent the highest quality standard among all types of rug. Depending on the knotting technique, these rugs are extremely hard-wearing and can last for generations. The finer and denser a rug is knotted, the more detailed the ornaments and patterns that can be shown in the pile. At the same time, a very fine oriental rug requires significantly more manual work, as well as a higher level of experience and skill from the weaver. Knot density is therefore also a key factor in the value of hand-knotted rugs. However, quality is not directly linked to knot density. A more coarsely knotted rug can still be made to an excellent standard.
